Dear Headteacher

I am writing to commend your pupils.

Today, travelling home, I crossed from Waterloo to Euston on the tube. At Embankment a number of boys and girls boarded our carriage, of very mixed ethnicity, identified by orange bibs as belonging to Tiverton Primary School. Their happy, relaxed chatter and laughter were a breath of fresh air in a stuffy carriage.

At the next station, an elderly Indian couple boarded. Immediately, a white boy stood up to offer his seat. At first this was declined but he persisted and the lady gratefully sat down.

In an age when there is so much racism, latent and blatant, in politics and society, your pupils’ interactions, amongst themselves and with other members of the public, are a beacon of hope for the future of Britain.

I just wanted to thank you so much for welcoming George and me to your school on Tuesday.

I was most impressed by the openess and enthusiasm of the children and how they were engaging with the music. It was good to see how much they were enjoying playing their instruments, and to hear some of them beginning to create their own music.

Your enthusiasm for music, and its role in supporting a wide curriculum in your school, was evident and I was so pleased to hear that you were encouraging staff to take the children to external cultural activities. Personally, I was brought up in the East Durham coalfield with parents who were not musicians: it was such visits organised by the school that took me to my first concerts, ballets and opera – so I know how important and life-changing these experiences can be.

To the headteacher of Tiverton School

I am one of the members of staff at Manor House station and would like to thank the class from your school that kept ourselves and customers entertained on this wet cold morning with their songs whilst they were waiting for there train to go their concert.

Not sure where to begin because thank you just doesn’t seem enough, but I would like to take this moment to express my gratitude to you for all you have done for my son Marley.

His journey at Tiverton has been nothing but exceptional, he has enjoyed every moment of it and has grown to a well-rounded person and this is thanks to you and your staff. It is so rare to experience teachers and staff who still have passion for teaching and a genuine love for children as is reflected at Tiverton.

You have created a great culture of a strong community spirit (how well Tiverton works in partnership with other schools, families, local organisations etc), the children being the best they can be, creating beautiful memories for them that they will carry throughout their lives and building their skills set in many various ways (school council, peer mentors, first aid etc), with this foundation, they are undoubtedly ready for the next part of their journey.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Ms Finfando & Ms Begum. Ms Finfando already had a plan in mind to improve Marley’s grades on our very first parents evening with her. She saw his potential and worked very hard with him to achieve to the best of his abilities.

Her teaching methods took the fear of doing the SATs away and instead he was actually looking forward to taking them with great confidence.

May I wish you and all at Tiverton the very best in everything in the future and once again… THANK YOU!

Dear all,

We would like to thank Tiverton Primary School so very much for attending our Cool Aeronautics event last Friday. It was a fantastic event with great talks, and the children seemed to really enjoy the afternoon workshops. Our ongoing aim is to inspire the next generation and by doing these events, it opens our young people’s eyes into the world of aviation and aerospace. An opportunity which many children may not always be given the chance to explore. Tiverton has been a strong supporter of the Cool Aero programme, having visited us in previous years and we very much hope to continue our longstanding relationship.

We would like to especially thank the teachers and volunteers of Tiverton who were excellent in mobilizing the pupils and ensuring their well-being throughout the event. I hope that the student who unfortunately became poorly is feeling better now, please pass her our best wishes.

Thank you so very much for attending once again, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting you and very much hope that the children were able to take away some important information from the event.
